In my last blog I wrote about the longer term. We can all count ourselves fortunate that contributions for Astrid’s project keep coming in. The signs are that soon we will have raised the necessary funds for 2023.
On the other hand, the political situation in Nicaragua is still dire. Nicaraguans continue to flee their country. For example, Stef Biemans, his Nicaraguan wife and children are now in Spain. Did you see their stories on VPRO-television. If not, here’s the link: VPRO. Astrid also writes a Nicaragua update to this Newsletter (update Nicaragua).
Opportunities to raise funds in Nicaragua itself have all but gone due to the political and economic turmoil. The project provides care to a very vulnerable group of people. There are no alternatives for their care. It’s crucial that the project continues. Our conclusion: funding from the Netherlands has to continue as well.
A new board The current board consists of Niko Tetteroo and the undersigned, Jeroen Boggia. Years ago we agreed with Astrid that we would commit ourselves to a term of five years as Board members, a period which ends in June 2020. Astrid has contacted two people who are considering taking over from us in the course of 2020.
Looking for a new treasurer We are still searching for a new treasurer. The tasks of the treasurer are not huge or complicated. If you are interested in helping Vivir Juntos this way, or if you know someone who might be interested, please contact us by any of the ways mentioned on our website.
