Because we are establishing a community home for rather vulnerable people it is necessary that we and the house are in line with several safety and health regulations. Therefore we arranged a visit from the Ministry of Health so that their inspector can assess whether our home meets the minimum hygiene standards and whether we comply with all other regulations.
Sometimes issues can drag on in Nicaragua, but that is not the case on this occasion. Within a week of having had contact with the Ministry they sent someone to inspect our premises. The only comment we received was that we ought to replace a few unprotected strip lights (that could explode into thousands of sharp shards) with strip lights that have a safe casing. Also, we were told that kitchen staff ought to wear an apron, a hairnet, and closed-in shoes when preparing food. We are expecting to receive the Ministry’s offical letter of approval by next week.
