‘The Fundación Cristiana Comunitaira para personas con discapacidad Ruach takes pleasure in inviting godparents and donors of the Fundación to a meeting on November 17th from 5 to 6:30 pm, where a presentation will be made of the work of the Foundation and the activities of the home community and the activities club’
Since last month we have been busy building up people’s interest in regularly supporting the community home and activities club through a donation in money, kind or services. Our staff in particular have proved to be excellent recruiters. I have learned that people are quite willing to donate a little or do something, but that few are happy to fill in a form through which they formally commit themselves long term. Nonetheless, 20 people have filled out the form that we especially designed for this purpose. That does not mean that we expect that all of them will keep their promise. That would be a miracle! Also, the pledged amounts are not spectacular, as 100 cordobas (about 3,15 euros) is already quite an amount for most people. But we work on the principle that all the small parts add up to something big!
We organized this meeting to increase people’s commitment to this scheme, to tell them something about the history of the Fundación, explaining our activities through pictures, a quiz, and ending with a tour of the home and a mini-party with some snacks and juice.
People who have visited our home are often touched by what they see, which increases the willingness to contribute to our work. In this way we will reach more people who will support our work. And we raise awareness of the position of intellectually disabled in Nicaragua, which is just as important for us as providing a dignified existence to our home residents.
