Although we have not yet managed to draft an official cooperation agreement with the largest University in Juigalpa, the UNAN (Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Nicaragua), we fortunately do have good contact with certain UNAN lecturers.
For a week now we have had working for us two final year students in Accountancy, who asked whether they could do their 100 hours of practical work with us.
We are happy that Meyling and Alejandra are helping us to make an inventory of all our possessions in our community home as well as the activities centre and office. That’s quite a job, which indirectly exposes them to our target group which is an enriching experience for them. Next week we also expect two volunteers through the international student organisation AISEC. AISEC has offices in several countries; I hear its Head Office is in the Netherlands! We hope to welcome, for a period of six week, two students, one from Mexico and one from the USA, who will help us to improve our public relations and financial procedures.
Of course we are very glad that there are young people who particularly choose to volunteer with us, who seek out contact with our target group and in that way help in creating more awareness. Hopefully it will become a good experience for everybody concerned.
